2023 Festival Art Awards

Festival Art Awards 2023

It may come as a surprise to new residents and tourists of Moore Park Beach that annually we hold an Arts Festival. And to them, it’s a pleasant surprise that locals and community members have been celebrating for over 21 years now.

Each year, the community, artists and those that are up for fun, entertainment and being amongst the community, come together.

The competition has categories to suit people of all ages with an artistic piece of work they created. Here, artists have the ability to reach out and connect with people, and where they also have the potential to shape new opportunities for themselves and even sell their work if they would like to.

The Moore Park Beach Art Awards are a drawcard for all artists, young and young at heart and a highlight of the Moore Park Beach Arts Festival.

If you have any questions please phone Art Awards Coordinator Heather on 0427 855 303.

Meet Our Judges

Our judges come from a diverse background, where their individual approach and foresight is sought after when considering art prize winners. Every judge views entry pieces through their own lens and contributes valuable and worthy time and consideration to each artwork submitted.

Annually we have the opportunity to work alongside different specialists with a keen eye for what is deemed artistic flair and skill. What this means is that with the rotation of judges, everyone has a chance to win and be seen, and appreciated for their commitment and effort they took to submit their masterpiece in the arts festival.

Jassy Watson

Jassy is a local multi-Award Winning Contemporary Australian artist. While formally trained in the arts in her early years,  it has been a life of experimenting and exploring that has led Jassy to develop a unique way of working with image that feels genuine. Her use of materials mostly ink, acrylic & oils is bold and assertive, especially evident in her use of heavy black inky lines, and a palette as vibrant as nature itself. Jassy has won 5 local art awards and has been a selected finalist for numerous prestigious art awards including the Lethbridge 20000.

While having led art retreats across Australia and the globe including Greece, Bali and the USA, you will find Jassy mostly teaching art workshops and private lessons from her home studio and on location across the local  region. She is thrilled to announce the return of International Art Tours  in 2024 with a SOLD out tour to GREECE and a tour to ITALY announced.

Jo Williams

Jo Williams is a mixed media  conceptual artist. She works in series inspired by an idea, song lyrics, proverbs, travels and the space between the dot points that holds all the stories. Her work is spiritual, primal, organic and based in her belief in redemption of materials and people. She is interested in the bones, the scars, the wounds and the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi where pouring gold into the cracks of broken objects not only mends them but makes them stronger and more beautiful than before. She also studies the Japanese concept of Ma, the space between, the space that holds all the mystery, the anticipation, the magic, the story.

Jo is also an arts educator who facilitates workshops throughout Central Queensland. She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions, won many awards, and she is represented in collections throughout Australia and overseas.

Jo moved to Howard on the Fraser Coast in 2011 where she continues her art practise and teaching, in her studio – Jo’s Art Cave.

Rosemary Anderson

Rosemary has been painting, sculpting and doing installation art since 1988.  She has lived and travelled extensively in Australia and overseas, and learnt to sculpt in stone, wood and metal while living in Africa for three years.

Rosemary has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, in painting and sculpture, in Australia and overseas, and has won numerous awards.

She has public artwork installed permanently in the ‘Turtleway  Artscape’ project of Boyne Island and Tannum Sands.

She has had work acquired by the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum, the Gladstone Regional Council and the Banana Shire Art Gallery.

In 2021 she moved to the small beachside community of Toogoom, north of Hervey Bay, has a studio space and is pursuing her arts practice.
